Asia Cup 2023 Super 4: Reserve Day Included for India vs Pakistan Clash on September 10: A noteworthy amendment has been initiated by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), as they have included a reserve day for the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan game scheduled on 10th September in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s. This decision mirrored an earlier provision for the Asia Cup Final, making it the second match to involve a contingency day.
The consensus to appoint a reserve day for the September 10 India-Pakistan clash emerged after an in-depth dialogue among the Asia Cup affiliates. The inception of this idea was proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which received unanimous approval from the entire member board.
It’s worth mentioning that the initial India-Pakistan match on September 2nd was somewhat disrupted due to persistent rain over Pallekele. The unpleasant weather interrupted the match various times during India’s turn at bat, eventually halting the game entirely, not allowing a second innings.
India faced a comparable weather predicament during its subsequent match against Nepal on September 4, again in Pallekele. However, a truncated 23-over chase was achievable for India, as the weather was more cooperative, after Nepal set a target of 230 runs in 48.2 overs.
The upcoming India-Pakistan match is set to take place in Colombo. However, weather forecasts suggest poor conditions with a 90 percent chance of rainfall, sparking fears of a potential washout.
The PCB, in apprehension of a potential washout of the India-Pakistan match, proposed to relocate the game from Colombo to Hambantota in a letter to the ACC. However, the governing board dismissed this suggestion.
Although the PCB reluctantly accepted the verdict, it registered formal protest against ACC’s decision-making. Amid these deliberations, the decision to allocate a reserve day was reached, providing a safeguard in case of total washout.
For both matches allocated a reserve day; the India vs Pakistan game and the Asia Cup 2023 Final, all attempts will be made to finish the matches as planned. However, if the game gets postponed to the reserve day, circumstances of the match would resume from the exact scenario of the last ball played the day prior.
